The excitement buildsā€¦

After waiting 9 months we are about to take delivery of our new van. While our 1st van was comfortable and had much to offer, it did limit our off grid aspirations. The Zone Peregrine is designed for off grid, dirt road and more rugged adventures. It features hot dipped galvanised chassis; composite body; air suspension and disk brakes; large lithium battery bank, inverter and max. solar panels; more water capacity; compost toilet and much more. Importantly, even with all the increased functionality, it is a similar weight to the previous van.

Tomorrow we depart to take delivery from the Coolum Beach factory next Friday. We intend to stay in and around central Queensland for a month or two so had to pack all travel equipment, clothing, kitchen utensils etc in the car!

Hold It Flats Farm

Off grid living does not get much better than this. Just 80kms south of Airlie Beach.

Love the space & peaceful setting compared to an over crowded caravan park

Lake Proserpine

Next location Peter Faust Dam, travelling south. Popular site on lakesideā€¦ off grid, camp fires, must retain greywater so as not to pollute the lake and very windy.

Burdekin Cane Farmstay

Within 20 minutes of Ayr we are set up off grid between cane fields for a couple of days. Property owner, the gregarious Greg, meets us on our arrival in his modified dune buggy. Very friendly guy who is a 3rd generation farmer. We are invited to his ā€œcommonā€ campfire for a chat with other campers. Very interesting information about cane farming over the years with a parting offer to show us around the farm tomorrow.

What a tour! Thanks Greg for showing us around and for the fun ride with Mollie (the dog!)

Rollingstone

Booked in for 7 nights. Very peaceful despite being a large caravan park and probably popular with Townsville residents (we are about 60 kms north). We will have the car serviced after itā€™s 2,000+ kms dirt road journey to the Cape; pick up a replacement set of side mirrors (Driverā€™s side lost due to a huge gust of wind from a passing truck) and food shopping) in Townsville.

Black Cockatoo

Visited Little Crystal Creek again. The water temperature was quite cold but refreshing and so clean & clear. Enjoyed putting a newly acquired 10 stop filter to use to capture the scenes below (long exposure up to 30 seconds).
