Four Mile Beach Campground

Located in the Fitzgerald National Park, 11 kms from the nearest town of Hopetoun, is where we are based for 3 nights… peaceful and isolated. There are 2 beaches in close walking proximity – Four Mile and Barrens Beach

Barrens Beach

Crystal clear water for our 1st W.A. swim!

The water temperature was much warmer than expected 😊

Bird life in the “park”

Photo of bird taken only metres away from the caravan

Night sky

A little cloudy, so not the best night for photography

Cape le Grand

Within 45 minutes drive of Esperance, this grand park features sweeping heathlands, rugged coastal peaks and white sandy beaches voted the best in Australia including Thistle Cove and Lucky Bay…

Lucky Bay… WOW!!

Instead of driving by road back to Esperance we took the “beach route“. The sand was reasonably firm so we decided not to reduce tyre pressure. Just before high tide there were a couple of difficult sections but none that stopped our 22km journey.

Esperance Coastal Drive

Esperance’s Great Ocean Drive is a 40 kilometre circular loop to explore by car that features a vast range of coastal elements such as stunning beaches, rocky headlands, small bays, steep cliffs and hidden ocean pools.

Wiley Bay (Esperance)

Living the dream… on a remote W.A. beach, 4WDing, white sand, crystal clear blue water, relaxing 😎, picnic lunch. Unfortunately the water temp (17°?) + a cool southerly breeze made the prospect of a swim less than inviting.

Baxter Rest Area

This overnight free camp area on the Nullarbor has space for many travellers. We are set up a comfortable distance (truck noise minimal) from the highway. This morning’s sunrise.

Nullabor Plain (Day 2 / 410kms)

We had expected to see more “desert like” landscape with no trees but this has not generally been so, today was the exception. We have also started driving on Australia’s longest straight having departed Caiguna for Baxter rest stop

Eucla

After travelling 4.5 hours over the Nullabor Plain we arrived at our night’s free camp

Tonight’s free camp

The Old Telegraph Station, Eucla (adjacent to our free camp site)

Bunda Cliffs

Today, a long held dream has been realised… seeing, flying the drone and taking photos at this amazing location in the middle of nowhere (on the Nullarbor Plain).

…and then a little further west…
