WWII Oil Storage Tunnels
The WWII Oil Storage Tunnels were built to protect the oil stored in Darwin from Japanese bombing. Located below the cliffs of Darwin City in the Darwin Wharf Precinct. By the time the tunnels were completed the risk from bombing had gone and the tunnels never stored oil. Today, we toured tunnel 5 and 6.

“City” Shopping
Can’t remember the last time we went shopping for clothes, sandals etc (January?). Darwin was the location to do some catching up (haha).

Hatch replaced
Good news 😀… hatch only part purchased in Darwin yesterday. Could not believe such an obscure item could be sourced within 10kms of where we are staying! Sooo… the “team” went to work late in the day (mistake due to failing light) to dismantle old & install the new. The successful job was completed, but it took over 2hrs.

Darwin
A capital city… such a big change to how life has been for so many months. Also, Jennifer & I have never been to Darwin before. There are lots of interesting places to see & things we are looking forward to doing. Planning to spend a week or more here.
Damaged hatch
While enjoying a happy hour drink at the Litchfield NP caravan park bar a tree branch fell onto the caravan’s front hatch. The damage requires a full hatch & lever replacement… not cheap and not available until Jayco Victorian factory reopens mid September. In the meantime running repairs should be OK.
Litchfield National Park
Litchfield National Park is home to several stunning waterfalls that cascade into crystal clear pools, iconic magnetic termite mounds and clusters of weathered sandstone pillars at the Lost City.
Buley Rock Pools II
Could not resist visiting again, this time early in the morning to avoid the crowds
Cascades
Another beautiful peaceful location in Litchfield National Park… 3km return walk from the car park to the “Cascades”
Wangi Falls…
On our 2nd day we decided to travel further into the National Park… to swim, walk and have lunch, even if the temperature was 32 by 11am. The swim was the best! We were surprised water still flows this late in the season.
Magnetic Termite Mounds, Buley Rock Pools, Florence Falls…
Swimming under the falls and relaxing in waterholes was welcomed after travelling from Katherine earlier in the day.
