Staying 15km outside Derby at Birdwood Station (on Gibb River Road!) for 5 nights as the base for Windjana gorge and Horizontal Falls. Checking out Derby today, but not much to see or do. COVID-19 takes its toll in many ways… tourism is but one of them. Derby Information Centre at the busiest time (school holidays) had 100 visitors, last year it was 600! Derby feels like a ghost town.
Cable Beach (North)
We travelled 5km along the beach to swim and have lunch. Another beautiful sunny, hot day. Feeling blessed!

The Big Lap
According to our Wiki Camps map, we have travelled 50% of the planned route. Total kms travelled 15,500 (car)/ 10,000 (car & caravan). The car has performed very well, with the only issue being bad fuel bought in Busselton. Fortunately we were not stranded (problem 1st presented after major service in Perth) but did need to have the problem throughly investigated and finally rectified at an authorised Jeep service agent (Geraldton).

Beach excursion
What started out as a back road trip via Pardoo to 80 Mile beach had to be modified when we could not find the final track section onto the highway. So we headed to a beach north of Pardoo Station. With lunch and chairs we enjoyed watching the fishing. Our departure was not so smooth… this was not a training exercise 😮
