Fire safety

Bushfire risk in this region is taken seriously. To improve fire safety adjacent to the camping area many trees are being felled and burnt during the off-season.

O.H.F. Set up

Portable solar panel, fire pit and wood, clothesline, water hose and satellite dish. What can’t be seen is the mice bait under the engine bonnet. As temperatures dropped they sought refuge next to the warmth of the engine!

Mice in the car’s engine

Benji recommended placing poison bait in the engine to avoid damage from mice or rats seeking the warmth from the cold. Sure enough, on successive days there was evidence of mice inhabiting the engine bay.

Camp oven cooking

Fire restrictions have been lifted so we are now preparing slow cook meals for the fire pit. The 1st meal, cooked for 3+ hours, was lamb shanks and vegetables (9!)

Another couple depart O.H.F.

With W.A.regional restrictions being eased, a couple who have been living here for the past 7 weeks have decided to leave to be Camp Hosts up north. Drinks around the communal fire pit, a farewell dinner in the kitchen followed by sitting around the fire while Benji played the bagpipes! Great night.

Generator

Finally decided to buy a generator. The wintery months with cloudy weather has reduced solar production. So rather than not be able to have a decent coffee or use the electric blankets etc we bought a generator.
